Stephanie is also dedicated to growing her business with as many Rhode Island connections as possible. 
“The entire JAVA supply chain has ties to Rhode Island,” says Stephanie, “Additionally, in a process created by, and known only to the JAVA family, our green coffee bean extract is made entirely in the U.S. by artisanal roasters and master millers including Kenyon’s Grist Mill. 

JAVA’s master roaster, Mark Addition, has created a way to prepare green coffee extract so that no additional heat or fillers is added to the production, which maintains extraordinarily high levels of antioxidants.  Additionally, because of Mark’s extensive training and roasting experience he is able identify when coffee beans are roasted to optimal levels of antioxidants and caffeine – this is the secret behind the Java effect.

It all began with an exquisite cup of artisanal roasted coffee at her husband’s coffee shop, Updike’s Newtowne, in Wickford, RI.  It was here that JAVA founder Stephanie Additon conceived the unlikely intersection of coffee and beauty: A new cup of java to be savored — this time, by the skin.  Stephanie was inspired by the science that underscores coffee’s topical benefits, and saw the potential early on of wedding coffee with skincare.

JAVA’s Argon oil, the highest-grade possible, is from a co-op in Morocco.  JAVA almond extract is from France, and our coffee (both roasted and green coffee) is from a family-run farm in Guatemala which has a Smithsonian/Organic Certification (the highest grade certification – only a handful of farms in the world have this because it’s so hard to get).   Other essential oils, like Vitamin E and Rosemary, found in JAVA products are always organic and sourced from U.S. companies.
